Mission City Center for Performing Arts Santa Clara Nutcracker

It's the season for traditions. Christmas tree decorating, ice skating, souvenir-giving, family dinners and for some, an almanac trip to see "The Nutcracker" ballet.

Merely before the production became the holiday staple it is today, "The Nutcracker" was met with some criticism from its late 19th century Russian audiences. Often, merely the second one-half was performed and fifty-fifty then, it was relegated to being labeled a children'due south ballet.

When the production finally reached the United states in the 1940s, it was given a new charter on life. American audiences embraced a story that is both serious and fun. "The Nutcracker" takes classical ballet vocabulary and pairs it with a fantastical, child-like atmosphere that encourages viewers to recall their own youthful dreams and excitement.

This nostalgic quality, brought to the stage in a story of a immature girl and her magical Christmas gift, has made "The  Nutcracker" the well-nigh popular and nigh performed ballet in the world.

The vibrant sets, costumes and story offer something that people of all ages tin can savour and equally one of the few ballets to focus on children, "The Nutcracker" gives many aspiring dancers their start gustatory modality of what it feels like to be a ballerina.

Although there are countless versions of this ballet, hints of the original choreography are still coupled with Tchaikovsky's timeless score as audiences journey into a magical fantasyland where dreams come true.

Check out this list of 12 "Nutcracker" productions you and your family unit can meet in Southern California this holiday season.
